Fussy Cat Water Fountain tips and tricks

Top Tips to keep the Fussy Cat Water Fountain working at its best!

No water coming out?

Just got a new Fountain and no water is coming out? You may need to prime the pump.

Initial Assembly

If you have an expecially inquisative breed, such as a Bengal or Maine Coon cat, don't show them how the fountain comes apart.

In my experience, it's best to make sure that the fountain is charged, filled and assembled out of sight of your cat. They'll then treat the fountain as a singular thing, rather than lots of smaller things to be taken apart and played with!

Noisy water or gurgling noises?

These are usually caused by an airlock in the pump, or the saucer misaligned. To get the air out of the pump, just gently pinch the rubber water outlet whilst its operating and the air should clear.

For running water noises, just move the saucer a little bit to ensure that its centred, twist the pump body to adjust the flow and make sure that its on a level surface. These noises usually disappear after a few hours use as it all settles in.

Cat not using the fountain?

Some cats take to a water fountain instantly, others take days or weeks to get used to it, or your cat may have simply decided that you've put it in the wrong place!

So make sure that the Fussy Cat Water Fountain is placed well away from any food sources or toileting areas as cats need those to be separate. Ideally, it should be in a spot in the home where your cat can observe its surroundings whilst using the fountain as in the wild, drinking puts them in a naturally vulnerable position.

Take the pump to the power

There is no need for long cables, extension leads and no picking up of the Fussy Cat Water Fountain to take it to the mains plug! Just turn off the pump, lift it out and pop it somewhere convenient to charge. There should be sufficient water left in the saucer for your cat whilst its charging. You can even use a USB power pack if you wish.

Daily tasks

If you have time, a daily rinse of the water saucer under the tap will keep it clean and shiny and prevent any build up of limescale, important if you live in a hard water area. It only takes 30 seconds.

Weekly task

Empty out the water fountain once a week. Take the opportunity to rinse any hairs/debris off the water filter, filter tray and the pump intake foam. Clean as necessary and replenish with fresh water. Take care to keep the USB-C charging socket dry.

Every two to three weeks

Recharge the battery in the pump body. This can be done with any 5v USB charger, a mobile power bank, USB socket on a laptop or a wall socket with a USB socket. No need to wait for that recharge light to come on. Just like a mobile phone, making sure that you don't allow the battery to get completely flat will extend its service life.

Every 1 to 2 months

Replace the 6-stage water filter. The life of the filter differs in each home and is dependant on the water quality/hardness, amount of cats, usage etc. It should be replaced at least every couple of months to prevent the build-up of any nasties.
